Motion Number: S4M-10688

Title: Westminster’s Immigration Rhetoric

Motion Text:
That the Parliament notes with concern what it considers the latest rhetoric from all three UK parties at Westminster to halve the time that EU migrants can claim benefits; understands that Scotland’s population has been steady or grown only very slowly in recent decades making it harder to grow the economy; believes that EU migration is positive for Scotland in becoming a more diverse nation; considers that this latest move is yet further evidence of the Conservative, Liberal Democrat and Labour policy agendas being driven by the rise of the UK Independence Party; calls on the UK parties to stop demonising migrants who, it considers, have a lot to offer Scotland, and concludes that the only way Scotland will have a positive relationship with Europe and a sensible immigration policy is for such powers to be controlled by an independent Scottish Government.

S4M-10652: Congratulating Graham’s Family Dairy

25 Jul 2014

That the Parliament congratulates Graham’s The Family Dairy, which is based in Stirlingshire, on becoming Scotland’s best-selling butter producer, with 10.9% of the market compared with 9.8% for its nearest rival; understands that this has been achieved against strong competition from global producers such as Lurpak; believes that quality Scottish products can compete successfully on the world stage, and welcomes the fact that Scottish consumers are buying Scottish produce and as a result are supporting jobs in Scotland.
