A full time position of Parliamentary Officer has arisen in the Constituency Office of John Mason, MSP for Glasgow Shettleston. This role will be based in Glasgow Shettleston Constituency office with occasional travel through to the Scottish Parliament being required. Flexible working on occasion may be required, particularly in the evenings.

Summary Job Description:
Casework – dealing with general public enquiries, working with John Mason to promote his parliamentary work, e.g. by producing high quality written material and using social media, supporting John Mason at Parliament as required.

Working Hours:
Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm; 35 hours per week.

Specific Duties include:
Ensuring office is welcoming and helpful for constituents and all enquiries are dealt with promptly.
Casework and making visits in constituency as required (normally alone but exceptionally with another member of staff).
Substituting for John Mason at surgeries.
Preparing John Mason’s annual and monthly reports and arranging distribution of these to constituents and organisations.
Reviewing newspapers, press releases, and media in general for items of interest to the member and the constituency.
Conducting basic research and surveys.
Maintaining John Mason’s website, Facebook, and twitter presence and regularly issuing press releases relating to the member’s work.
Administrative work as required.
Working in a flexible and confidential manner at all times and as part of a team.
Carrying out duties or projects delegated by John Mason or the Office Manager, as required.

Salary: £23,000 – £25,000 depending on experience, etc.

Overtime, etc.:
If overtime is required or other variation of working hours, this will normally be covered by time off in lieu.

Required Skills:
• Strong understanding of Scottish Politics and the Scottish National Party.
• Self-motivated and able to manage your own workload.
• Ability to work on own initiative and to challenging deadlines.
• Excellent oral and written communications skills.
• Ability to work as part of a small team.

Desirable Skills:
• Local knowledge of Glasgow Shettleston constituency.
• Good IT skills.
• Previous Parliamentary experience.
