Glasgow Shettleston MSP, John Mason, has written to SPT bosses seeking clarification about the future of the 310 bus service.
The 310 bus service was operated by Henderson’s Travel who dramatically announced on Wednesday that they had ceased trading with immediate effect, a move that is reported to lead to over 100 job losses.
Commenting, John Mason MSP said:
“First and foremost, our thoughts go to the families and staff who stand to lose their jobs at what is understandably a difficult time of the year. I know my SNP colleagues have raised the issue with the First Minister, and the Scottish Government will be doing all it can to help the workforce.
“Turning to our own situation here in the East End, the 310 – which serves many communities in the East End, including Shettleston, Mount Vernon, Broomhouse and Baillieston – surely now has questions hanging over it. I have therefore written to Gordon MacLennan, Chief Executive of SPT, seeking an urgent update on the future provision of the service.
“My understanding is that the 310 has still been running but on a much disrupted and delayed service. We want to see a solid and dependable service restored in the quickest possible timescale. For some folk this is a lifeline service, not a luxury.
“It is no secret that car ownership in the East End is perhaps lower than other parts of the city, therefore reliance on bus services is greater”.
