Title: Free Asia Bibi

Motion Text:
That the Parliament expresses grave concern for Asia Bibi, the Pakistani Christian woman who has been sentenced to death by hanging for blasphemy; regrets that Asia Bibi’s legal team recently failed in their bid to have her conviction quashed and that the final option available is an appeal to the Supreme Court of Pakistan; understands that, if this appeal fails, Asia Bibi will be the first women to be executed in Pakistan for blasphemy; reaffirms its opposition to the death penalty, and calls on the UK Government to make urgent representations to the Pakistan Government expressing its total opposition to this type of treatment of minority groups.
