JOHN MASON WELCOMES OPENING OF M74 MOTORWAY

28 Jun 2011

Scottish National Party MSP for Glasgow Shettleston, John Mason, has warmly welcomed the opening of the new M74 motorway extension, which runs through his East End constituency.

The MSP, who fought much of his election campaign on the record of SNP Government investment, said he was delighted with the new motorway link, particularly as it was delivered eight months ahead of schedule and £20 million under budget.

Commenting, SNP MSP for Glasgow Shettleston, John Mason, said:

“This is another marvellous investment in our transport infrastructure by the SNP Government

“The new M74 extension comes in addition to the on-going M80 upgrade, the new Edinburgh Rail link and a commitment by the Government to modernise Glasgow’s Subway. All of these projects will be of huge benefit to the 2014 Commonwealth Games, another capital project, which is 80% funded by the Scottish Government.

“This new M74 motorway extension will reduce congestion on the M8 and has the potential to create up to 20,000 jobs, which will be a real boost to the local economy.

“A special congratulations goes to Transport Scotland and Ministers Keith Brown and Stewart Stevenson for delivering this project both ahead of schedule and under budget.

“The successful delivery of this project shows that, when the SNP wins, Glasgow wins”.
