Motion S4M-13754: Inheritance Tax

10 Jul 2015

That the Parliament notes the Chancellor’s decision to increase the inheritance tax threshold from £325,000 to £500,000 per person; understands that this means homes worth up to £1 million will be able to be passed down to children free of tax; considers inheritance tax to be an important method of redistributing wealth from the richest to the poorest and therefore makes society less unequal; notes the view that this decision is particularly inappropriate at a time of welfare and other budget cuts, and believes that the latest UK Government Budget should be deplored for increasing the gap between rich and poor.
