That the Parliament notes the recent report by the Industrial Communities Alliance, Whose Recovery?, which investigated the effect of economic growth on industrial communities such as Shettleston in Glasgow; agrees with the report’s assertion that reducing welfare benefits is detrimental to economic growth in post-industrial areas, and notes the views that reducing unemployment and low pay is the best way to reduce the claimant count and that more must be done to make sure that post-industrial communities benefit equally from any economic recovery.
