S4M-10713: WW1 Commencement Anniversary

04 Aug 2014

That the Parliament notes the anniversary of the commencement of the First World War; deeply regrets what was one of the deadliest conflicts in history, which led to the death of over nine million people; respects the beliefs of the conscientious objectors as well as the sincerity and bravery of the ordinary soldiers who sacrificed so much; notes the continuing controversy over whether the European leaders were well intentioned or seriously negligent in taking their countries to war, and hopes both that everyone can learn the lesson that war should never be entered into lightly and that Scotland and the UK should be part of a more peaceful world in which all people can live in harmony.
