That the Parliament welcomes the proposals from the Scottish Government’s Expert Working Group on Welfare; considers that these contain a raft of suggestions, including the abolition of the so-called bedroom tax, increasing benefits and tax credits in line with inflation, the introduction of a new social security allowance, replacing the work programme with new initiatives to help people find and stay in employment and the scrapping of work capability assessments and sanctions regime; commends the group’s suggestion to increase the statutory minimum wage to the level of the living wage, and considers that all of these proposals provide the framework for a fairer, more compassionate and equal Scotland.
