NEW CAMPAIGN EMPOWERS THE NATION TO START ‘ENERGY SHOPPING’

21 May 2014

John Mason MSP ofgem 2Shettleston MSP John Mason has backed a new campaign encouraging consumers to go energy shopping and get the best deal on their gas and electricity bills.

The ‘Be An Energy Shopper’ campaign launched by energy regulator Ofgem comes after new figures reveal one in three people are concerned about how much they are paying on energy.

Previously, more than half of consumers (53%) say they have been confused by energy tariffs – but not anymore – Ofgem’s recent reforms have resulted in a simpler, clearer and fairer energy market which means participating in the energy market has never been easier.

As part of the ‘Be an Energy Shopper’ campaign, an easy guide has been created – www.goenergyshopping.co.uk. This will help demystify the confusion previously associated with comparing energy tariffs and help people to start shopping around for their energy. The new website provides consumers with the know-how to check existing energy deals so they can get a better tariff.

Commenting, John Mason MSP said: “Consumers devote a lot of time comparing deals on cars, mobile phones, and even groceries but say energy is a hassle. It’s now easier than ever to find the best deal for you and just by spending the same amount of time you do to shop for insurance plans or bank accounts, you can get a better deal on your energy bill.”
