CALL ISSUED FOR BATON BEARER NOMINATIONS

01 Nov 2013

Glasgow Shettleston SNP MSP, John Mason, is encouraging his constituents to nominate a baton-bearer to help carry the Queen’s Baton when it reaches Glasgow on its journey to the opening of the Commonwealth Games.

To nominate a Baton bearer, simply go to: http://glasgow2014.com/queens-baton-relay/pass-baton.  Applications close on Friday 22nd November 2013.

East End MSP, John Mason, commented:

“The Commonwealth Games will be a huge event for Scotland and everyone has an opportunity to play their part when the baton relay makes its way through every part of Scotland on its way to the opening ceremony.

“During the Olympic Relay many, many people came out to see the baton as it passed through Glasgow.

“That has heightened interest and sporting participation in Glasgow.

“For the Queen’s Baton Relay for the Commonwealth Games, people in Glasgow can nominate those they feel have made a significant contribution to their local community, those who have improved the lives of others or who have triumphed against the odds, to carry the baton as one of 4000 others on its final leg through Scotland.

“I hope that this will help raise the profile of sport in the East End, and that it will increase interest in the Commonwealth Games as we approach July 2014.”
