John Mason, Scottish National Party MSP for the Glasgow Shettleston constituency, which includes Parkhead, has welcomed the opening of the East End Regeneration Route last night. The new £25 million Clyde Gateway road links Parkhead to the M74 at Polmadie and is expected to transport up to 18,000 athletes and support staff, as well as spectators, during the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

The road officially opened to the public at 7pm on Thursday evening and the SNP’s John Mason was along today (Friday) to check out the East End’s newest road. Mr Mason has also lodged a parliamentary motion to welcome the opening of the new route.

Speaking from the East End Regeneration Route, John Mason MSP said:

“This new Clyde Gateway will open up the East End like never before and provide vital transport links that will attract investment and jobs to the East End.

“The Regeneration Route is the latest transport addition to a Commonwealth Games legacy that will transform East End by 2014. This is proof that the Commonwealth Games is much more than just a fortnight for tourists in 2014. The Commonwealth Games is a great opportunity to showcase the East End and some of our new excellent infrastructure”.
