The Scottish National Party MSP for Glasgow Shettleston, John Mason, has today welcomed new funding that will come to Glasgow from The Scottish Government to tackle youth unemployment across the city.
The Scottish Government’s Minister for Youth Employment, Angela Constance MSP, recently announced that £9m will be targeted at youth unemployment hot spots. Local MSP for the East End, John Mason, particularly welcomed news that Glasgow will receive one third of the total money announced (£3,371,000).
Welcoming news of this latest investment, the SNP’s John Mason commented:
“I welcome this latest investment in getting our young people back into the labour market.
“Youth unemployment has been one of the real tragedies of this economic recession and any action to tackle it should be welcomed across the Parliament. The SNP Government continues to support Glasgow and its young people and the challenge now is for Glasgow City Council to make good use of this money.
“The SNP Government is working tirelessly to attract investment, create jobs and opportunities for our young people. Despite the Labour Party voting against it, we have ensured that there will be 25,000 modern apprenticeship places each year for the life time of this Parliament. We have created an Opportunities For All scheme that ensures that young people have the chance of a place in education or training.
“I believe this latest investment confirms our commitment to getting our young people back into work”.
