SNP Member of the Scottish Parliament for Shettleston, John Mason, has welcomed First Minister Alex Salmond’s launch of the independence referendum consultation.
The First Minister today (Wednesday) outlined the Scottish Government’s plans to hold a referendum on Scottish independence in 2014.
Commenting after the First Minister’s statement to the Scottish Parliament, SNP MSP, John Mason, said:
“There is a real feeling that we are on the brink of making history here in Scotland. I am really excited by today’s announcement.
“With over 40 foreign news outlets, from America to Azerbaijan, all in Edinburgh today covering the launch, it’s clear that the eyes of the world are on Scotland for this, our independence referendum.
“Over the next two years we can have a proper detailed debate on Scotland’s future. I am convinced that everyone in Scotland will be best served by our being a normal independent country, with Scotland taking its rightful place at the world’s top tables.
“Of course, the purpose of a consultation is to hear everyone’s view, so I would invite all constituents, interest groups and organisations to respond and take part in this hugely important debate.
“This is an opportunity not to be missed”.
